That comparison says the file was not repackaged by someone else; it is not a review of what the app does.

The manifest inside the APK declares 14 permissions, including access to your SMS messages, sending SMS messages, phone state and your contacts. Android asks you to approve those the first time the app needs them.

Its licence is GPL-3.0-only. We took this build from F-Droid, and the source for this exact version is linked below.

The most recent release upstream is from Dec 5, 2019, over 6 years ago. It still installs; it is simply not being updated.
